Only two warblers in the yard this morning – Yellow-rumped and Yellow-throated,
but the Yellow-throated was spectacular! It came to the bird bath and drank
and then took several baths as we sat quietly and marveled at the black, white,
and yellow. This is the first time we’ve ever had a Yellow-throated in the
bird bath. We still have over a dozen White-throated Sparrows, some of which
are in “courtin” colors and very beautiful. We did not see a Purple Finch
today but a female was eating seed on the deck yesterday. This is the first
winter the Purple Finches have been here daily; usually we only see them when
it is extremely cold or when it snows so we have enjoyed at least 2 males and 3
females being around all the time. We have more Ruby-throated Hummingbirds but
the usual large numbers haven’t appeared yet.
