Hi all,
Just a quick follow-up on the Dutch Bottoms jaeger yesterday. I was able to
study it for an hour 10:00-11:00am and get some photos. It appears to be
another juvenile Parasitic Jaeger, like the bird here a week and a half ago
during the remnants of Florence. Yesterday's bird did appear rather dark
with pale bars on the undertail coverts, but these were not as broad and
contrasting as typically seen in Long-tailed. The relatively heavy body,
broad wings, shorter-tailed appearance, weakly contrasting markings on the
upperwing and uppertail, and extensive wing flashes also point to Parasitic
rather than Long-tailed. Photos of yesterday's bird are at:

And photos of the Florence bird are in this checklist:

Otherwise, things were quiet in the Douglas Reservoir area yesterday. At
Rankin Bottoms, a Greater White-fronted Goose and some expected shorebirds
(e.g., Semipalmated Plover and Semipalmated, Least, and Pectoral
sandpipers) were present.
Best regards,
Mike Harvey
