Email did not seem to go through the first time, so here it is again with photo
link.

Many of the ducks Rick Knight reported yesterday were still around this
morning.  I ran into a couple young birders from Abingdon at Musick's and we
found 16+ Common Mergansers, and while we were scanning 12 Long-tailed Ducks
flew in.  Unfortunately, just as they predicted the White-winged Scoters (5)
flew in just after they had to leave for church.  Soon after, Ron and DollyAnn
showed up and entertained me with stories of world birding adventures.  They
told me about a Shrike on Pemberton Rd, which when I went by turned out to be a
pair.  Then, while scanning from the South Holston Dam, 19 White-winged Scoters
flew in.  That is at least 24 White-winged Scoters on the lake, which ties the
high count from Robinson's book but which I suspect has been broken since.
Thanks to Rick for the report from yesterday and to Ron and DollyAnn and the
guys from Abingdon for the good company.  Peace.
