Subject: Purple Gallinule
I just wanted to let everyone know that this morning on the Cattails golf
course in Kingsport our group found a juvenile Purple Gallinule in the
marsh/pond on the 15th hole. The marsh/pond is located between the tee and
the green. I took a photo with my cell phone and scope, but didn’t get a very
good image, but it is good enough for identification. I went back out this
afternoon, but did not see the bird. I was wanting to get a better photo with
my camera as I didn’t have it with me this morning.
I posted the sighting on ebird along with my photo.
If you go to look for the bird, you need to go in the morning hours because
the golfers will be on the back nine of the course around 10:00am and the
management doesn’t want us to disturb the golfers or have a birder get hit
with a golf ball. Bill Grigsby called the pro shop and they said that it was
okay to go out after 3:00 today, but I don’t know about other days.
Thanks.
Gary Bailey
