At 2:00pm today I was outside doing some yard work when I stopped to observe a large and seemingly never ending flock of blackbirds streaming across the sky headed north. As the flock diminished I notice what appeared to be an eagle much higher than the blackbirds and approaching my location from the east. Quickly running inside I grabbed my binoculars and ran back out to observe the bird. It was quite large and very dark in color with very little if any white on it's underparts. The first thing I noticed was how it's tail appeared to be longer compared to a Bald Eagle and it's wings were not completely flat while soaring like a Bald Eagle. Since this is my first Golden Eagle spotted in the wild I consulted several field guides and reliable internet sources and feel very confident in my identification. The bird continued to the west as it flew out of site.
