Monday, March 28 Obion County Yesterday I was driving south on U.S, Hwy 45W between Union City and Kenton when I spotted a flock of American Golden-Plovers flying over the highway. I turned around and was able to follow the flock until they landed in a soybean stubble field on Elam Road. I counted over 400 birds in the flock. I drove around the area and encountered several more flocks on Garrett Sawmill Road, Ed Moffat Road and along Hwy 45W. The flocks contained anywhere from 50 to 500 birds. I estimated that there were over 2500 American Golden-Plovers in the area. I had flocks in this same general area in 2008, 2009, and 2010. The birds were using soybean and corn stubble fields that were somewhat overgrown with henbit. I also saw both adult Bald Eagles at their nest on Hwy 51 near Trimble in Dyer County and had several Purple Martins and Barn Swallows feeding over the Trimble barrow pit on Hwy 51 at the Dyer County/Obion County line.
