The shot is of an Aechmophorus indeed!! What a great find. The photo is not clear but when enlarged it appears the bill is dull greenish and the dark on the face comes below the eye. The dark on the face and neck are unusual but I've never seen a young bird of this species but it could be just a shadow. Most likely a Western but a closer study needed to eliminate Clark's. After the split the first Aechmophorus IDed to species was an Amazing Clark's on Nickajack Lake in March 1993. Thanks for sharing and congratulations. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
