Not much by West Tennessee standards, but 10 species of shorebirds here is a
big deal. Especially when one is a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER. Found by Clyde Blum
and identified by Jennifer Rydell and Gary Brunvoll, it was only the third time
I have observed the species in the County since 1970.
The bird was just west of the big white tent at Standifer Gap Marsh, observed
this afternoon by 8 - 10 birders before the rains set in.
The talley from?the Brainerd Levee(BL), Chickamauga Dam(CHD)?and Standifer Gap
Marsh(SGM) is as follows:
Semipalmated Plover - 12(SGM)
Killdeer - (SGM, BL)
Greater? Yellowlegs - 2(BL); 6(SGM)
Lesser Yellowlegs - 40(BL); 35(SGM)
Solitary Sandpiper - 6(BL); 4(SGM)
Willet - 2 flybys @ CHD
Spotted Sandpiper - 2(BL); 2(SGM)
Least Sandpiper - 1(BL); 12(SGM)
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER - 1 breeding plumage, SGM
Wilson's Snipe - 2(BL)
Also observed today at the Riverport (just east of the Metals USA building)
were 60+ BOBOLINKS and an additional 80 were present at the Brainerd Levee.

Let's go birding,
