Harpeth River Greenway Davidson Co. Bellevue, TN 2012 June 23 An early Saturday morning walk along the Harpeth River Greenway next to Morton Mill Road in Bellevue resulted in 35 species. To my surprise an immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was standing on the rock peninsula that extends out into the drying up small lake. It is only the second time that I've seen one on the lake. While looking and listening at the far end of the walk for a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT that has been calling for the past several weeks, to my pleasant surprise I instead heard an alternate song of a NORTHERN PARULA. After about 5 minutes of waiting I finally got to see him up close and personal. Also of interest was a female ORCHARD ORIOLE next to a begging immature. Another AWOL bird was the male BLUE GROSBEAK that has been singing at the lake for the past several weeks. I'll have to walk again tomorrow morning to look for the birds I missed today.
