Harpeth River Greenway
Davidson Co.
Bellevue, TN
Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, 6:45-8:00 am cloudy, mild
Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, 6:45-8:00 am clear, cool

I want to thank Frank for his post the other day about birding on the
Harpeth River Greenway. It reminded me about birding at this spot. Even
though I drive by all the time, I hadn't birded there since early spring.
It's
also a great way to start off the day before going to the office.

I went there Wed and Thurs mornings this week from 6:45 to 8:00 am.

The Palm Warblers were abundant and active on Wednesday - at least 10 of
them along the lake edge. This morning, Thursday, there were only a few and
they were less active.

I also saw a White-crowned Sparrow today along with Song Sparrows and, I
think, Swamp Sparrows. I'm gaining confidence with the warblers, but need
to work on sparrows.

There were two Common Yellowthroats and several Yellow-rumped Warblers on
both days. Thursday morning the warblers seemed more active in the taller
trees near the small bridge. I saw a couple of Tennessee Warblers, a
Black-throated Green, and a Bay-breasted. I would bet there were others
about,
but I couldn't stay long without being even more late for work.

There was an Eastern Phoebe on Thursday morning calling at the top of a
dead tree on the other side of the lake, and Wednesday I saw a Belted
Kingfisher and three Great Blue Herons.
