April 6, 2014 Henry County We just had our first Ruby-throated Hummingbird, exactly one week earlier than last year's date. They normally come on the 12th or 13th of April. I wonder if we will be blessed with the unusually large numbers we had last year? I do hope so, and have bought lots of sugar while it was on sale. Also in this previous week, we have seen Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and White-eyed Vireo in the yard, and have heard Northern Parula. We also have a male Indigo Bunting coming to our feeders which could be the same bird which has been coming since March 3 during the ice storm. If it is the same bird, he has almost fully come into his adult plumage now and would be hard to distinguish between another bird. If it is a different bird and not our abnormally early bunting from early March, then it is still early for us because we tend to get buntings in mid-April.
