We have seen a Hermit Thrush around our yard a few times this fall and
winter, but the last couple of days have been interesting. We had some
apples that got too old and we put them out to see if anything would partake.
Yesterday I caught movement at one, got my binos and there was the thrush,
really chowing down. It stayed there a long time, eating. Today it was
back, this time it was eating suet on the ground beneath the feeder. It also
appeared to eat some millet seed. Seems as if foraging might not be usual
after all the cold weather this year.
