At least three adult bald eagles and eleven immature bald eagles were seen on
or near Hiwassee Island in Meigs County this morning from the overlook at the
Cherokee Removal Memorial Park. Some visitors to the gazebo viewing area at
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge reported seeing an adult bald eagle catch a fish in
the slough near  the viewing area. There were numerous ducks of several species
on the same slough. I saw eight species. Perhaps the best species I saw was a
pintail located for me by Bruce Dralle.
Hundreds of sandhill cranes were in the fields near the gazebo at HWR and in
the slough nearby. However, large numbers of cranes were also seen kettling and
flying south this morning over the Birchwood areas of Meigs and Hamilton
County.

Yesterday at my home in Birchwood (Hamilton County) I identified a new life
bird - a winter wren, and I saw my FOS brown creeper.
