Shelby County Wastewater Treatment Plant 4:00 p.m. I ran into Jeff Wilson at the pits this afternoon and happily for me he'd found a HUDSONIAN GODWIT. It had moved from where he'd seen it earlier this morning, but we were able to relocate the bird in one of the shallow ponds west of the sludge pits, between the huge mulch pile?and the spread fields?farther back. From the same vantage point we could see a?beautiful Black-bellied Plover, a Ruddy Turnstone, a Dunlin, three White-rumped Sandpipers, and Short-billed Dowitchers in groups of twos and threes, a Sora, one Solitary Sandpiper, Least Sandpipers,?a few Semipalmated and one?Pectoral Sandpiper, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs,? several Spotted Sandpipers scattered about, several Wilson's Phalaropes, Blue-winged Teal, Canada Geese, Mallards, a male Northern Shoveler, not to mention the Red-winged Blackbrds and Stilts.? Near the big crane where they're pumping water,?I didn't ty to count theWilson's Pahalropes there, spinning and spinning, or take time to identify the other shorebirds in water right thereby the road. Mother's Day affair made me have to leave!? What a beautiful few hours at the pits!
