Within 60 or 70 minutes of putting out my hummingbird feeders Friday, a
large, plump, gloriously ruby-throated Rubythroat checked them out. I think
he sipped briefly from each, but then he disappeared and I didn't see him
for the rest of the day. He returned again yesterday, perched on each for
about a millisecond, then spent about 10 seconds trying to figure out why
the yellow plastic collar atop my rain gauge would not yield nectar 😄 I
wonder whether he was claiming the feeders as territory rather than
actually wanting to ingest the sugar water....?
I haven't studied my warbler songs this year, but I'm pretty certain I
heard the first black and white warbler of the year up in my woods, along
with the tom turkeys.
