TN birders: As of 3:30 pm Katrina is packing winds of 175 mph (hurricane force winds extend 90 miles east of the eye) and covers an unusually large area (at the present it is the 4th strongest Atlantic hurricane in history at 902 mb and if it continues at category 5 will be only the 4th such storm to hit land since records began). The potential for many different birds to be blown our way is quite high. In addition to size and strength the storm is moving quite fast which bodes well for birds. At this point Tuesday may be the best day as some forecasts speculate that the storm will be short-lived in our area before quickly dispersing to the east. Wednesday would be the next best bet and it may all be over by Wednesday night. Well, my academic schedule this semester is such that I have Tuesday off and I am interested in advice as to where to look especially from those with experience with Dennis, and if others are interested in the hunt.
