Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area, Jefferson City Thursday, November 17, 2011 @ 9:00 AM Leader: Harold Howell (865-828-6302) Meet at the parking lot for Mossy Creek Wildlife Viewing Area in Jefferson City, TN at 9:00 AM. Take Highway 11E to Jefferson City, turn left on State Route 92 (directly across from the Jefferson County Hospital. There is a traffic light with a turn lane.). Travel a bit over a mile and watch carefully for SR 92 to make a 90 degree left turn, poorly marked. After the left turn you will cross a bridge over railroad tracks, then take the next street to the right. This street will tee into another street, where you will turn right. Go about three city blocks and turn left at the next street (there is an older white farmhouse on the corner). This street tees into another street in about two city blocks, and you will be looking at Mossy Creek. Turn left and go a short distance to the parking lot on the right. Our target birds will be possible rails, other water birds and sparrows. When we finish at Mossy Creek, we will tour some other spots around the area, such as Cherokee Dam or possibly Buffalo Springs WMA in Grainger County. Moderate walking will be required over mostly level ground. We should finish by noon. For more directions and additional information about the site visit http://www.tnbirds.org/birdfinding/JeffersonCity.htm and the Tennessee Watchable Wildlife site .
