Despite morning rains, 19 birders enjoyed birding Cades Cove. Walking from the campground store numerous robins, siskins, goldfinch and Purple finches were seen along with a very cooperative male Pileated woodpecker feeding on the ground. At the sewage ponds 6 species of ducks and a coot were observed. Most of the group then went to the western part of the Cove and observed an adult Red-headed woodpecker and approximately 30 American pipits were found in a field that had been burned last fall near the Cable Mill.
