Lately I've been going down to the boardwalk at Ijams Nature Center early in
the morning to scope for waterfowl. This morning there were just a few WOOD
DUCKS, a PIED-BILLED GREBE, and the female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER that has been
hanging out there for the past few days. I also had a FOS HERRING GULL, a
flyover AMERICAN PIPIT, one of the resident BALD EAGLES, and, to my surprise, a
late SORA, which was calling from the pasture across the river. I think he's en
route to Tom Howe's house in Blount County where Soras spend the entire winter!
