Wednesday night (9/2) about 7:45 pm I was running with my dogs and saw 4 terns
flying midriver near the UT Plant Sciences Farm. I was pretty sure they were
Black Terns, but in hopes of something different I ran home, grabbed the kayak,
and paddled out. Light was pretty low, but confirmed 4 Black Terns (and lots
of Chimney Swifts).
There is a lot of submerged vegetation in the shoals midriver, and terns were
foraging over that. I suspect they would be visible from the airport south of
Plant Sciences, maybe from Maloney Marina, and also from Harrison Keepe
subdivision.
