I had half expected to see a Lap or two when I was at Reelfoot last, glad to see that they are in. Who says you have to go somewhere special to see a good bird! BTW, nice yard bird Mark. It won't be long until it will be time to give the mat field at Reelfoot a good traipsing for Smith's. Most were distant but one flock of 20+ Horned Larks flew directly over me. As they flew over I heard a familiar rattle from a Lapland Longspur in the flock. Immediately after that I heard the distinctive "tew, tew" notes coming from the last two birds in the flock. These were my first Lapland Longspurs of the fall and also a new yard bird. I expected to get them last year but never did. Other birds of note were a migrating Sharp-shinned Hawk, two Northern Harriers, a Loggerhead Shrike, a flock of Cedar Waxwings, and dozens of juncos and Yellow-rumped Warblers.
