As pointed out to me by Terry Witt, Lark Sparrows usually nest on the = ground, as per my email about a possible nest in a cedar. I was thinking = that I thought they were ground nesters when I sent my post yesterday, but = didn't think it too important since all the Lark Sparrow nests I've seen = (albeit few) were ~5 ft off the ground in small trees. They had stick = nests just like what I found, which is in contrast to nest description in = "Nests, Eggs, and Nestlings" by Paul Baicich and Colin Harrison. Similar = nesting info from the species acct in the Birds of North America. =20 I guess I'll check on that nest and see if I was just fooled by their = activity and interest in the tree. Could have been a nest of another = species that failed early on in incubation and I didn't see who may have = made it. Who knows. I'll keep an eye on that pair.
