At The Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County, TN this afternoon a large raft
of 63 Lesser Scaup were floating some distance across the water; looked to be
divided evenly between males and females. (My thrill of the day was dragging
my scope from the car and discovering that those dark shapes across the water
weren't Coots!) Osprey on nest at the Yacht Club. Singing Pine
Warblers/Chipping Sparrows (can't really tell the difference from their song;
I've seen a Chipping Sparrow singing what sounded to me dead-on for a Pine
Warbler). Bonaparte's Gulls outnumbered Ring-Billeds 64 to 4. Four or five
Great Blue Herons at the Cove but they don't appear to be nesting in the small
heronry across Northshore. Many swallows. All that I managed to ID were Tree
Swallows but I probably missed some other species.
