A few recent changes have been made to the eBird hotspots at Long Hunter State
Park.
The umbrella hotspot for the park has long been located in Rutherford County
whereas the overwhelming majority of Long Hunter is in Davidson County. This
has resulted in many checklists appearing in the wrong county. There is no
perfect solution to this problem but in an attempt to address it I have created
a second umbrella hotspot in Davidson County. So we now have Long Hunter SP
(Rutherford Co.) and Long Hunter SP (Davidson Co.).
The narrow strip of Long Hunter in Rutherford County consists of most of the
Bryant Grove section of the park, including a mountain bike trail and a boat
ramp, and most of Barnett Road, but not the recreation and picnic areas which
are across the line in Davidson County.
If you have a Long Hunter checklist placed in Rutherford County that belongs in
Davidson County, you can move it to a more appropriate location by opening your
checklist, selecting “Edit Location” near its top and choosing “Nearby Location
on a Map”. This will open a map with a bunch of red teardrop hotspot markers;
click on a marker to show its name. Once you've found the correct marker,
simply choose “Continue” and your checklist is moved.
You can move your list to the new Davidson County umbrella hotspot or to one of
the several sublocations in Davidson County that may not have been hotspots
when you first entered your list; where appropriate it is always best to use
the more specific location:
Long Hunter SP—Couchville Lake
Long Hunter SP—Shoreline Picnic Area
Long Hunter SP—Visitor Center/Deer Trail
Long Hunter SP—Volunteer Day Loop Trail
Long Hunter SP—Bryant Grove Rec Area/Barnett Rd
