Yesterday, Jonnie Sue Lyons and I saw the Trumpeter Swan. We drove into the
parking lot withing 20 feet of the Swan which was in company with Canada Geese
and domestic geese. The geese and swan were all feeding on grass. One Canada
Goose had fishing line wrapped tightly around its leg. Later, I got out of the
car and tried to approach the injured goose, hoping to remove the monofilament.
The geese and Trumpeter Swan walked slowly back into the lake. I believe the
Trumpeter Swan is so tame that it will not survive hunting season next year.
Most Trumpeter Swans fly away from approaching cars and people, keeping a
distance of 70+ yards..
