4/19/08 Ed Davis Fish Farm; Gibson Co I made a detour by Ed Davis Fish Farm again this morning, and the productive areas from recent trips are largely dry. I only saw a single Killdeer in the main pond. However, a large shorebird flying in the distance caught my eye, and initially I assumed it was a Greater Yellowlegs. However, when I got my glasses on it, I was pleasantly surprised to see a gorgeous Marbled Godwit. I hoped the bird would make at least a quick stop, but I watched it fly over a treeline and out of sight. It was flying pretty low and very leisurely, and I think it possibly went down in one of the ponds that aren't visible from the road. I had the bird in view for about a minute or so, and watched this beauty through my Kowa on a window-mount part of the time. It has been several years since I've seen one in TN, and this is only the 3rd time I've seen them in TN. However, it has been a good spring for them, with several recently in KY, as well as AR. I was also somewhat surprised to hear the Harris's Sparrow singing in the same location I originally found it on 4/1. I didn't stay long enough to try and get a look at it, but hope to over the next couple of days, it should be looking pretty nice by now. The last time I had on the bird was 4/7, though I checked briefly one morning since unsuccessfully. Literally right up the road from the Harris's, I had a Lark Sparrow feeding near the road in a pasture. This is my 1st of the year, and in a new spot for me (though within a couple of miles of one of my regular spots for them). This was one of the few times I've seen them in this area that didn't involve a corn field.
