7/27/2013 Ensley Just got a call from Q.B. Gray who was birding this morning down at the Pits. He had a Marbled Godwit in sleeping with some Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks on one of the mounds in the central pits area. The Whistlers all got up and moved around, then settled back down, but the Godwit took off and Q.B. last saw it flying towards the southeast I believe; not a good sign for it returning. But, nice that he was there to see it anyway! Otherwise, he said lots of small shorebirds around, but mostly out in the distance on the big open pit. It would be a great time for something really rare to show up, I'm hoping to get down there one day next weekend myself for some local birding. Can't complain, just got back from a non-birding trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, where I still managed enough birding to get all of the native birds and most of the introduced exotics. Will post some photos soon. Good Birding!! Mike Todd McKenzie, TN birder1@xxxxxxxxxxxxx www.pbase.com/mctodd
