I'd like to recommend this "warbler hotspot" for those who live in Maryville or
close to it. There is a small water inlet, by the creek, behind the wetland on
Maryville Greenway. It appears that warblers like to visit to this particular
section before they go to bed.
The spot is really close to the Pavilion. If you enter the Greenway from the
path, it's on your left, some yards away (maybe 30 yds?). The hot-time is after
5:30 pm (Or maybe a bit later.) The time would be important. If you get there
daytime you might not see any warblers. (I haven't had a chance to check the
spot in the early morning yet.)
I first saw several warblers there by chance and visited to the same spot next
day. The same thing was happing: a variety of warblers hanging out. The
following day, I stopped by again, and saw the same activities: bathing,
pluming, wondering, or passing by, one after another.
The list of warblers I saw from 28th to 30th is as follows: Am. Redstart,
Bay-breasted, Chestnut-sided, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded, Magnolia, Mourning,
Northern Waterthrush, Prairie, Prothonotary, Tennessee.
I'm not good at identifying birds so there were a lot of warblers that I
couldn't tell who they were. I photographed all noted species, except
Prothonotary. (But I really got a good look at it, so I'm positive.)
Hope this message is useful for someone. Happy Birding!
