Greetings birders, I had the pleasure to bird the Maxson Pits with Virginia Reynolds and Gaynell Perry this past Sunday, Sept. 7 and we enjoyed sifting through the Sandpipers and looking for whatever would show itself. Overall not a bad day, although the Black Terns, Short-billed Dowitcher and Red Knot appear to have moved onward. All of the usual suspects were present including to name a few: 71 Black-bellied Duck (had 3 broods with chicks that was exciting) 25 Semipalmated SP 150+ Killdeer 1 Spotted SP 2 Solitary SP 6 Lesser Yellowlegs 6 Stilt SP 2500+ Least SP 76 Pectoral SP 12 Semipalmated Plover 1 Wilson's Phalarope Plus the other usuals and the complete eBIrd can be found at the following link: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S19788145 Attaching a highly compressed shot of some of one of the Black-bellied Whistling Duck broods. Bird On! Georges McNeil Shelby County
