4/19/2017Memphis, Shelby CoMeeman-Shelby Forest SP, President's Island, Ensley
Birded Memphis yesterday, starting at Meeman-Shebly for a few hours, then the
Pits. Migration was pretty slow, but total of 19 species of warblers wasn't
bad. Migrant species were 1's and 2's other than TN and Nashville (among them
heard only Blackburnian and Northern Waterthrush). Breeding warblers were very
well represented, including a Cerulean and 4 (again) Swainson's. Two of the
Swainson's were countersinging, and pretty cooperative again by their
standards.
No sign of Western Kingbirds or Scissor-tails yet in a quick pass at
President's Island. Only 9 species of shorebirds at Ensley, with low numbers
overall, led by Pectorals, and notably high numbers of (notso) Solitary
Sandpipers. Of note were 2 Long-billed Dowitchers. The big pit is totally
flooded, most of the birds were in the line of pits to the south of the big one.
