I have been fortunate enough to have taken the last week off from work and have tried to sample passerine migration from my residence at Cravens Terrace on Lookout Mountain. I was in the Smokys on Monday and Tuesday but have been out every morning since then. Wed. 23rd was by far the best day. I had 16 species of warblers in my yard, as well as Scarlet Tanagers, Great-crested Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, and several Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. The warbler list included: 1 GOLDEN-WINGED 1 Black-throated Blue (a rare migrant in Hamilton County) 2 Bay-breasted 1 Canada 2 Cape May 2 Blackburnian 2 Worm-eating The Black-throated Blue and Bay-breasted, are quite early for Hamilton County. I also had my FOS Baltimore Oriole in the neighborhood on the 23rd. No thrushes have been evident yet accept Wood? The 24th was a little slower, but both Cerulean Warbler and Northern Parula were in the yard. It is fun to hear them sing at the same time, the songs can be quite similar. The 25th was a lot quieter with mostly breeder species such as Worm-eating and Hooded singing. This morning (26th) was active with new arrivals such as Blackpoll Warbler (3), Eastern Wood Peewee and Swainson's Thrush, my first migrant (non Wood) thrush migrant of the spring.
