This morning at Radnor Lake I walked my usual route from the
west parking lot to Long Bridge and back. Just before the
Artist and Teacher bench I saw some movement quite low
in a close tangle and got a brief glimpse of a bird
that seemed to have an eyering. Eventually, I got a brief
but good view of a female MOURNING WARBLER. It chipped
several times, which brought in a male INDIGO BUNTING to check
it out. Later near the fence just before Long Bridge I got
nice looks at a male MOURNING WARBLER, chowing down a
breakfast caterpillar. This has been an excellent year
for MOURNING WARBLER sightings at Radnor Lake, but
CONNECTICUT WARBLERs have been very elusive since the first
sightings some 10 days ago. In the same general area, a bit
before Long Bridge, I had a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER,
another late migrant, giving its "tuwee" call over and over
again. Unfortunately, it never came close enough to see.
Two MAGNOLIA WARBLERs rounded out the migrants this morning.
