NTOS Field Trip October 17 - Natchez Trace State Park.

Please note that we will be taking I -40 to Natchez State Park, not the Natchez
Trace Parkway. We will travel to Natchez Trace State Park, and take the Cub
Creek Lake Trail. Originally I thought we would also bird Dear Trail, but at
this point and there are lots of trees felled on that trail and it is
impassable.

Two weeks ago there were still some migrants including Rough-winged Swallows,
Hooded, Magnolia, and Pine Warblers, and the regulars including an enclave of
Red-headed Woodpeckers, in the dead trees of a beaver dam. As an aside, there
are lots of wildflowers and several unusual mushroom species.

Plan to meet before 7 a.m. and to leave the lower parking lot of the Adventure
Science Center at 7 a.m. The Park is about 2 hours from Nashville. We will
arrive there around 9 a.m.
In the fall, weather is changeable, so listen to the forecast and dress
accordingly. Bring Snacks, and water. We will be done before noon but you may
want to bring a sandwich too.
