I posted earlier from the field with a dying phone, so wasn’t able to include
full info.
Walking the paved greenway near the 1.5 mile marker my wife and I saw a sparrow
with lots of buff color in the face. Initially saw it just a few feet from the
greenway and got a poor photo. It then flew to the edge of the taller grass
and goldenrod across the 2nd of the two mowed running paths. It stayed low in
the grass and shrubs, challenging to get a look at.
We did get pretty good look and better photo. Buffy face surrounding grayish
ear patch. Black line from behind ear patch to nape. Gray crown stripe.
Streaking on sides, not so much on breast. Obvious white stripes on back.
Photos are posted with e-bird report.
Sighting was Saturday 10/13/18 at about 5:30 pm. Still present when we left.
