Sorry to be several days after the fact in reporting this, but have had
obligations. On Tuesday, after I shopped Kroner--Belle Mead, I heard a
phoebe behind the stores and went to investigate. It sounded very stressed
and was seemingly louder. When I got down there, to where the parking lot
and liquor store which are under Crystal's (fine China shop), I realized that
the phoebe was up under the ceiling of the multi-floor employee parking lot
which is behind all the stores. It was serving to amplify his voice, so that
it sounded much louder than usual. I could see the phoebe in all its
screaming fury as it flew back and forth attacking an unidentified snake that
was sunning itself on the first tier of the parking area. I think the phoebe
has a nesting site up in the ceiling of the roof (which is like being under a
bridge). It is dark up in there, and I could not see a nest or the
beginnings of one, but the phoebe was very territorial.
