Cove Lake State Park Campbell County, TN - North of Knoxville off I75 Exit 134 This morning I found Cove Lake State Park's first WHITE IBIS. (to my knowledge) It was a first fall bird, and was in the company of an immature LITTLE BLUE HERON. If you go look for this bird, walk out on the only fishing dock there, and look directly across to the mud flats. Birding always holds it's special memories. First time I have ever seen an Ibis feeding among Red Cardinal Flower. Quite a gorgeous site. You will probably need a scope to see the bird well, if he stays in that distant area.. A lot of Purple Martins were about. A lone Double-Crested Comorant was also present. Hopefully the fall and winter season at the park will be good, as this year the ducks will not be terrorized by the once resident Mute Swan. Wood Duck numbers are already starting to increase. Be sure to stop by the park office and get the new birding list. Am trying to keep the park manager aware that birders are truly interested in birding the park.
