I spent several hours in Dyer County looking for Victor and Ruben’s Swainson’s
Hawk today, April 27. I concentrated on the area surrounded by the Great River
Rd (Hwy181) on the East, Moss Island Rd. on the south, Chic Rd (west) and
Poorway Rd. on the north. Saw several first of season birds for me, nothing
unexpected but always nice Dicksissels, Summer Tanagers, Baltimore Orioles,
plus Loggerhead Shrike in two locations, and Blue-winged Teal in several. One
pool held 52 Lesser Yellowlegs and 2 Black-necked Stilts; in another pool along
Hwy. 88 a single Greater Yellowlegs waded with some Lessers. A few American
White Pelicans were scattered about, and at one point 14 flew over.
I’ll submit an eBird checklist later.
Thanks Ruben and Victor ( and all you other great TN birders!) for sharing your
sightings!
Good Birding!
