TN-birders, I just wanted to remind everyone that this coming Saturday, May 14th, is International Migratory Bird Day. As part of that celebration, this is the day the North American Migration Count is run. The count area for this one day count is a any county. You are welcome to count birds in any county. As with all bird counts in Tennessee, please remember to include the "effort" data along with your bird sightings. Effort data includes: 1 - hours and miles by car, foot, other means (as canoe, horse, etc.), and any nightbirding (owling). 2 - the number of birding parties and names of all participants 3 - any hours of people watching bird feeders and their names. 4 - the start and end times of your party or count. 5 - the weather conditions, including wind and high & low temperatures. In most cases these data will be turned into your local count compiler, who will then forward the compilation to me. If you are counting in a county where you are the only observers or there is no designated compiler, just send that data directly to me (email is fine) at the location given below. All the data I receive will be compiled into a final report for the state and will be published in the quarterly journal of the Tennessee Ornithological Society, THE MIGRANT. If you only observe a few random birds in a county, it may not get published, but I will keep the records in my files anyway. All data is important. This is a good opportunity to bird in some areas that normally don't get covered by other counts. You can submit data from more than one county. Just keep track of your efforts per county. As always, have a good time and be careful if your county has had severe weather preceeding the count day. Low areas flood quickly and can be very dangerous. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me before mid-day tomorrow. Great birding to all, Ron Hoff TOS state count compiler 282 Hackworth Lane Clinton, TN 37716 rondolly@xxxxxxxxx =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
