Hello, Just got back from a little drive down to the Cleece's Ferry Boat Ramp on the Cumberland River in the Charlotte Park area of Davidson County to see if anything was around. There was one female mallard swimming around, a great blue heron on the far shore at Bell's Bend and two belted kingfishers fishing. As I drove along Annex Avenue, two Eurasian collared doves were perched on a wire in front of some apartment buildings, then another one at the end of Capri Drive at River Rouge. Several chimney swifts and a large flock (50 +) common grackles were flying above the Rock Harbor Marina on Basswood. Lots of mourning doves were on wires all over the neighborhood. When I returned home a few blocks east of the river, I was still being inundated by huge numbers of all my regular species plus a smaller flock of grackles. Birds here seem to be "tanking up" for the worst, as they have been eating constantly since early this morning requiring me to put out four times the amount of food I do on a normal day. Mourning doves, young cardinals and house sparrows have been having food fights. My cardinals are recovering from molt, but now my blue jays are bald with one sporting ONE long crest feather which reminds me of the one plume on the hat of any one of the three musketeers. Wonder if overnight will bring us something worth seeing. Good birding to all. Get out and see if you can find a "rarie." Cheers & prayers, Dee Thompson Nashville, TN
