From Winchester, drive west onto Route 50 (Lynchburg Highway)approximately 10
miles to the Tims Ford Lake Dam Area
Just a heads up for a nice bird this time of year- an Osprey was noted flying
(not soaring) with a group of Vultures- descending from the dam going into the
region of the overspill area of the Elk River around 11:00 am today. The bird
eventually dropped to near the water- River Access Area. I located it on
Powerhouse Lane (where the Dam powerplant is located). The Guards at the Plant
says people are allowed on the road over the spillage area. was able to snap a
photo.
this bird might be a hit or miss, but anyone in the area looking to boost their
December species list could get lucky
