Walter S. Davis Blvd Marsh Nashville, Davidson Co., TN 2013 Oct. 24 7:20 am On the way to work I again stopped by the Walter S. Davis Blvd Marsh next to the TSU campus in Nashville. Hoping to eventually find an AMERICAN BITTERN there for the fourth fall in a row, but there was no sign of one there today. Water level in the lake continues to drop with some of the channels dried up, but in one of the close water channels two heads in the water caught my eye. I soon saw the full bodies of 2 OTTERs as they wandered back and forth in the little water channel. I've seen a BEAVER swimming in the lake but this is my first OTTER sighting. While watching the otters, I was distracted by non-KILLDEER shorebirds. Like yesterday, I found PECTORAL SANDPIPERs feeding in the mud. This morning there were 5 of them. Also present were numerous MALLARDs, N. SHOVELERS, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and a single AMERICAN WIGEON. Plenty of SWAMP SPARROWs moving around in the weeds.
