Peeler Park
Madison, Davidson Co.
Phillip Casteel and I birded Peeler Park this morning. Peeler is
Metropolitan Nashville's newest park which just opened a few weeks ago. It's
located in
Madison, just north of Nashville at the east end of Neelys Bend Rd., which
runs off of Gallatin Pk. The park has 1.5 miles of paved trails, plus some
side
trails and a horse path. Another trail and boardwalk will be added this fall.
It's mostly bottom land running along the Cumberland River with large open
fields, tree lines, and some woods. It seemed very promising as a new birding
destination for the Nashville area. Some birds of interest:
Great Blue Heron
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Wild Turkey
Yellow-billed Cuckoo many
Eastern Phoebe
Great Crested Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird
Purple Martin
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Brown Thrasher
Cedar Waxwing
White-eyed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Prothonotary Warbler
Kentucky Warbler
Summer Tanager
Indigo Bunting many
Field Sparrow
