[TN-Bird] Pied-billed Grebes on the move

Sept. 28, 2009 Natchez Trace State Park, Henderson county TN
 
On Monday evening I was at Natchez Trace SP and saw a few Pied-billed  
Grebes around the dam at Brown's Creek Lake. Out in the center of the lake were 
 
a couple of rafts of ~ 30 birds in each. Back at Cub Lake about sunset  the
re was one large raft of 75 birds, with a couple of Wood Duck males mixed  
in. The total of aprox. 140 on both little lakes is the most I can remember  
seeing at one time, at least away from the big water of Kentucky Lake. Very  
windy conditions during the day as the front pushed thru may have had 
something  to do with keeping them down. Tuesday morning most were gone. I was  
wondering if anyone else saw unusual numbers of Pied-billed  Grebes; I 
noticed Gary Casey did have a group of 28 PBGs on Radnor  Lake on the 28th.
