Good morning Birders, For several days, here at my home in the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville (Davidson County) a few blocks from the Cumberland River's Cleece's Ferry boat ramp, I have watched my hummingbirds enjoy feeding from the flowers of a ten foot tall poke berry bush that is growing at the side of my deck just outside the kitchen window. As I washed my dinner dishes last night around seven, several hummers including my second male of the season went to war over the flowers which are still blooming although bunches of berries are forming. Looks as if I'll have a bumper crop of poke berries in addition to all these grapes the birds are now gulping down in their endless search for sustenance. I hope the leaves of the poke stay nice through the season so that I can make myself a "mess" of poke salat. I don't want to strip the plant now so that it will provide plenty of healthy blossoms & berries for my birds. My morning glories in pink, magenta, blue and deep purple are providing an attraction for the hummers this morning along with the poke & althea blossoms. On another note, I watched almost constantly yesterday in the hope that my suspected albino rock pigeon would return. It didn't. Perhaps it was blown in from elsewhere and went back "home" after the storm. I am fairly familiar with the "resident" flock, and I have noticed that the two "cinnamon" birds come by with the group only about once a week. They, too, are quite gorgeous. Several people wrote off line to tell me they had seen albino rock pigeons here and as far away as Montana and Long Island. I still WANT this one to return and pose for a picture. Happy birding to all. Dee Thompson Nashville, TN
