Lynne,
I do not think there is any way any Purple Martins have fledged this year. We
get the Martins almost every year before anyone else in Tennessee and ours are
no where near fledged yet (usually around July 4th). It is possible their nest
somewhere else got destroyed by a storm or a snake got into their nest. They
may be checking out yours for next year. I doubt they raise this late but I
would be very interested in your letting us know either way. I hope they do.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Purple Martins
This week, we have had Purple Martins flying around our gourd poles for the
first time in years. We quickly made sure the poles and gourds were
serviceable, and the birds were back today. This seems a bit late for them to
be looking for nesting spots. Could these be this year’s young scouting a new
place for next time?
