Birders, There has been some movement of birds into the southeast Tennessee area lately. Friday, March 4, I saw a pair of Eastern Meadow Larks. Years ago before so much development in the Ooltewah area, the golf course had them year round. For the last several years the only ones I see are migrating through. The March 4 date is eight days earlier than I have seen them previously. This afternoon I saw my first two male Purple Martins of the season. I have seen them earlier at this location on three dates within the last 10 years (the earliest was Feb. 22, 2005). It looks like some Yellow-rumped Warblers are moving north again. After hardly seeing any the past few weeks, I saw several today. Other birds I saw of interest included: one female Purple Finch and a large flock of Cedar Waxwings. All told I saw 31 species in a ride around the golf course late morning and at 4:00 PM. David Stone The Honors Golf Course Ooltewah, Tn.
