Just moments ago, I had a glorious purple finch on my feeder when I went outside to replenish the food supply. He was "field guide perfect" right up to his scruffy high "feather-doo" It always amazes me how the house finches pale in comparison by seemingly becoming a faded pink when basking in the splendor of the male purple's raspberryish brilliance. When he flew from my yard, he took a little brown female with him, most likely of his own species as they left an althea bush full of male and female house finches. I hope he returns. He made my day! I hope everyone had a marvelous Thanksgiving. I did.
