Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Wednesday, 2009 Oct. 7 Morning after a significant cold front Clear and crisp 7:15-9.55 am Having just returned yesterday afternoon from a trip to the Chicago area, I was glad to return to Radnor. Wednesday was a glorious morning for a walk. With a cold front having come through the night before, it turned out to be the most active morning I've had this fall. Highlights included 13 species of warblers and 4 species of vireos. To my surprise the dominant warber was BLACK-THROATED GREEN, but there were also double digit numbers of TENNESSEE and MAGNOLIA WARBLERs. There were still plenty of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs but two YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERs also means that more winter birds should be coming soon. A light juvenile BROAD-WINGED HAWK circled the dam area briefly as I worked my way back to the parking lot. Birds of interest included: Broad-winged Hawk 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2 Yellow-throated Vireo 1 Blue-headed Vireo 1 Philadelphia Vireo 3 Red-eyed Vireo 2 Swainson's Thrush 2 Cedar Waxwing 23 Warblers: Tennessee 14 Nashville 3 N.
