Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Monday 2009 Oct. 19 7:20-9:30 am clear, crisp, and chilly After being in Texas over the weekend my Monday morning walk at Radnor Lake was a shock to the system. However, the near freezing temperatures did not bother the birds around the dam and deck along the Lake Trail, which was where most of the action happened. There was a major mix of neo-tropical migrants and winter birds. While, I saw first of the season WINTER WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETs, and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, I found a total of 11 species of warblers, dominated, as expected, by YELLOW-RUMPEDs, but TENNESSEEs made a double digit showing. In addition to the warblers I had a single BLUE-HEADED VIREO and several TREE SWALLOWs plus a modest number of CHIMNEY SWIFTs. There was a nice wave of INDIGO BUNTINGs as well. However, I found no migrating ducks. Birds of interest included: Chimney Swift 21 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2 N. Flicker 2 E. Wood-Pewee 1 E. Phoebe 1 Blue-headed Vireo 1 Tree Swallow 6 House Wren 1 Winter Wren 1 Golden-crowned Kinglet 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2 Gray Catbird 2 Brown Thrasher 1 Cedar Waxwing 8 Warblers: Tennessee 10 Orange-crowned 1 Chestnut-sided 1 Magnolia 4 Yellow-rumped 43 Black-throated Green 6 Blackburnian 1 Bay-breasted 2 Black-and-white 1 Am.
