We did some birding today in the Rankin area while leading a Sierra Club group on a canoe tour. Shorebird numbers are increasing, but the the lake is still too high (986+) for birding from the shore; Labor Day weekend should be better for dry-land birding. Dowitchers and pectoral sandpipers are now present, peeps are increasing. We didn't notice any Eastern Kingbirds, but we finally got a good look at a willow flycatcher.
